Apple’s New Map, Expansion #12
Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, & Andorra
September 2021

After forty-three days of public testing, Apple’s new map data was expanded to Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, and Andorra on September 10, 2021:

This is the twelfth time that Apple has expanded its new map data since its public launch three years ago in September 2018:

Italy, San Marino, Vatican City, and Andorra are the seventh, eighth, ninth, and tenth countries to receive Apple’s new map data—and this data now covers eight European countries.

After three years of expansions—and seven years of data collecting—Apple’s new map data now covers 13.1% of Earth’s land area and 7.1% of the global population (i.e., 560 million people worldwide):

In terms of total land area covered, Expansion #12 is one of Apple’s smaller expansions. Covering an area slightly smaller than the state of Arizona, it’s Apple’s ninth largest to date:

Apple’s next expansion (Expansion #13) is likely to be Australia.
