In April 2022, Google quietly added “street-level details” for twenty new cities, including Amsterdam, Atlanta, Barcelona, Brussels, Budapest, Charleston, Copenhagen, Edinburgh, Helsinki, Kyoto, New Orleans, Oslo, Ottawa, Paris, Philadelphia, Prague, San Antonio, Singapore, Vancouver, and Washington.
This brings the total number of cities with street-level details to forty:
Google’s “street-level details” include real-world road widths, crosswalks, sidewalks, pathways and stairs in parks, and an overall increase in roadside vegetation detail (such as strips of grass between roads).
But unlike Apple’s “Detailed City Experience” (currently available in ten cities), Google’s street-level details do not include lane markings or individual tree locations:1
Google seems to be struggling to release this feature. During its Google I/O 2021 keynote last May, Google announced that it would add detailed street maps for fifty new cities by 2021’s end:
But as of April 2022, this feature has only been released for forty cities.
